Family M Photo Session

The forecast was for rain ~ we took our chances and didn't reschedule. Just our luck, mother nature was on our side and it ended up being a beautiful day.
I look forward to family photo sessions, it's intriguing to me to see how family's react to poses or interact with one another and I love it when there is more than one generation in the photo.
This photo session was a little different for me, seeing it is my brother and his family and brand new grandson. It really puts life into perspective when photographing your sibling as a grandfather ~ it was just the other day that he was dunking me in the pool and we were only 10 ! Seeing the love among them reminded me of what I've always believed in, anything is possible with love and family comes first.
Another perfect example to capture every moment you can. Some may feel that more that one photo of their child at age 3 or 5 or 10 is not necessary. But looking back, you'll be glad to see all the memories that you have created and you will smile and be glad you did ! You never know what tomorrow will bring . . . .

Cake Smash With Baby S

It gives me great pleasure to provide such a wonderful keepsake for both parent and child. The cake smash sessions that I offer are fun. You never know what the reaction of the child is going to be. In this case, sweet baby s was a pure lady. She was gentle and delicate when eating her birthday cake. She enjoyed the sweet taste of the frosting and we captured some precious moments.
I know in years to come there will be great memories when these images are viewed.

My Canty Gig . . . .

It is my pleasure to be working with my dear friend, Erin Canty and her dance studio. Canty Dance Centre, located in Webster Ma (be sure to check out their face book page) has an amazing group of teachers and support systems. Their team is dedicated to the love of dance and it shows through their classes. They not only teach the fundamentals of dance, they are huge supporters of believing in yourself and to dance from the heart.
Less than one year ago I started covering Canty's special events and this past June their 11th Annual Dance Recital "do your thing". I am by no means a "dance" photographer and there were many factors that needed to be taken into consideration. Unlike photographing in my studio or on location, I was not in charge of the lighting in the auditorium, nor did I have the dance routines memorized. This made it a bit difficult to capture each dancer in their best spot light ! However, I was so overwhelmed by the amount of talented dancer that attend Canty Dance, I decided to just go with it and "do my thing" The older groups were as intriguing as the tiniest tot dancers. What an amazing show.
One of the greatest attributes Canty Dance Centre possesses is their kindness and humanity! Each year they sponsor a Bowl - a - Thon to benefit Little Hearts.(www.littlehearts.org) an organization that lends support and hope to those affected by congenital heart disease. What a wonderful act of humanity.Again, going along with Canty's ethics in believing, there is always hope if you just let it in !
I am thrilled to be a part of the Canty family. It truly warms my heart to be involved with such a wonderful group of people. You can't help but smile when you are surrounded by smiles.
Here are a few photos from some of Canty's events

Wonderful Spaghetti Dinner - wouldn't be possible without team work !

What to wear for your family photo session

I have had clients tell me that they have literally lost sleep trying to decide on the perfect outfit for their family portrait. Here are a few quick reference guides to help you on your way !

  • Be Yourself !  The last thing we want to do is stuff little Tommy into a 3 piece suit, that he's never worn and expect him to be natural and happy during the session. One of the first families that I photographed came to the session in "Life is good" t-shirts and shorts. The session was near a lake and we had a blast during our time together. Guess what ? Their photos reflected their playfulness and zest for life, they were being themselves and it showed.
  • Solids Or Prints?  Being a mom of girl/boy twins, I am the queen of coordinating. I love to dress them a like but not exactly the same. This is the attitude to keep in mind while choosing outfits for your own family photos. Take for instance a colorful printed dress. Now pull some solid colors from the dress to add as accent colors for the other family members. Poof - you all go together but no one is exactly the same. Just as it should be !
  • Black vs White ? So many times I hear " I want to  do the white t-shirt with blue jeans - it's classic!" I instantly think - NO not the bright white shirt ! I must confess, I am not a fan of the white shirt. Is is doable? Sure it is, but there are some factors that need to be considered. First we need to consider the client, their skin & hair tone, is the session going to be outside, or in the studio? What look is the client trying to achieve? Photographing a client with light or very pale skin, blonde hair and white t-shirt, will more than likely leave little contrast. We certainly can do the "classic white t-shirt: We just need to keep in mind the details !

I hope that I've given you something to think about. Mainly, you just want to come to your session with your biggest smile. If you don't, then we'll be sure to find it ! Having fun, being relaxed and just letting go are sure ways to a successful session that will leave you with many remarkable images.

To be creative is to be in love with life.

Shepard Hill LaCrosse

I had the pleasure of shooting my first HS LaCrosse game. Following a great player who not only loves the game, but one that I have watched grow from a small boy. I am sure there will be more fun and exciting activities through out his HS years
